I am just now recovered from my fun girls’ weekend in L.A. Let’s cover some highlights, shall we?
Friday afternoon: We (three happy girls — me, Brenna and Amanda) got on a plane in Calgary, landed in L.A. and hightailed it to the Chateau Marmont, where we’d rented a cottage. Apparently, we believe we’re high rollers. We became even more happy when we discovered a bottle of chilled champagne, courtesy of a thoughtful Calgarian who knows how to impress.
Friday night: We took advantage of the beautiful evening and spent all night sitting on the Chateau’s patio. Yes, we saw celebrities but played it cool because, well, you can’t be uncool at the Chateau. We ate delicious food, our motto being, “I’m not going to regret it. I’m just going to eat it.” This applied particularly to the truffle oil French fries.
Saturday: The day was filled with leisurely things, like getting hair done at the Chris McMillan Salon (he’s Jen Aniston’s hairdresser), shopping on Robertson Boulevard and having lunch at Cecconi’s West Hollywood.
All this, to prepare for the Big Event!
Saturday night: The Big Event! An Intimate Evening with Jeffrey Sachs in Santa Monica. He spoke and wowed us with his message of how creating change in the world is possible — but that it’s up to each and every one of us. (He also called Amanda ”a great hero” for her work in Africa!Which she is, of course, and I will write more about this soon.) We shook his hand, had drinks and food in the garden and then went out to The Huntley Hotel for beverages. It was a dreamy night.
Our friends in the photo above are a lovely, not to mention incredibly talented, couple: Simon Tatum, a film producer and director, and Beth Doane, a social entrepreneur (she founded RainTees), author, speaker and more. I’m so happy to have met them (come to Calgary soon!).
As for my outfit that night, here’s the only full-length shot I have of my new Donna Karan dress. I apologize for the decor.
