The Holidays

With two weeks left before the holidays, my thoughts have turned from press releases and freelance stories to sugar cookies and Christmas carols. December 21st can’t come soon enough. What do you have planned for the holidays? I’m liking how mine are shaping up so far.

First, I’ll spend a week in Edmonton with my family and friends. We’ll sit around the tree, sleep in and watch movies — I’m also pushing for a family date to see Les Miserables. I’ll bring my cross-country skis and my new snowshoes, too, for some outdoor adventures. And I’m looking forward to seeing friends that I haven’t visited with in ages. I believe a Boxing Day outing is planned, which means I will plan a day of recovery on the 27th. Of everything planned, I’m most excited for Christmas Eve. I love the energy, the traditions and the family dinner. The shot below of me and my brother is from three years ago. It’s amazing how Santa still finds us at our parents’ place.

After that week in Edmonton, I’ll spend New Year’s Eve in Whitefish, Montana. My girlfriend and I are joining a group of friends that will be new friends to me. I don’t know much about the group’s plans, but I do know this: there’s a theme for New Year’s Eve that involves plaid shirts. I’m so down with this plan.

When it’s time to head back to work on the 2nd, I’m hoping that I’ll have had the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure over the holidays. And lots and lots of caramel Baileys.
